Joss & Main: Nantucket Inspiration

Being the partial New England girl that I am, I always have a love for seaside themed decor and furniture. This week Joss & Main is featuring designs by Erin Gates. Her style has a warm and inviting feel with a whole lot of the fabulous rustic beachy feel of a Nantucket cottage.

I don't think there was one piece I didn't love!

Martha's Vineyard

My weekend in the Vineyard was just lovely. The towns of Oaks Bluff and Edgartown were so quaint and filled with beautiful architecture and charming shops and boutiques.

This area was filled with little Victorian Gingerbread houses that were so adorable. Each unique in their own way!

This one was my ultimate favorite. The colors are fantastic and the lush flowers gave this cottage the most curb appeal.

The porches themselves were quite elegant. I was just a little obsessed with the turquoise on the ceiling of the porch with the black shutters against the white clapboard was the perfect touch for these seaside villas.

I couldn't create this post without a photo of the beautiful dock and light house. So perfect!

There's something about the drive into work on a Friday morning that just feels.. well, different. It's that feeling that the end is in sight and soon you can be relaxing with your favorite book by the pool or enjoying a day on Martha's Vineyard (which I am lucky enough to be doing this weekend!) with sunshine flooding your personal space. Yeah, I'm so ready for this week to be over.

Getting Back to Your 'Roots'

A few weeks ago we traveled to the easternmost point of Massachusetts known as the beautiful Provincetown, or as it's more lovingly know to the locals, "P-Town". I absolutely love it there. The culture is free and wild, and gives you a feeling of pure liberation. While walking down Commercial St., I couldn't resist but stop in just about all of the little boutiques carrying everything from home furnishings, decor, knick-knacks, and everything in between.

One store that I fell in love with was Roots, located right in the heart of Commercial St. This little shop had the most amazing decor and, given the money, I would have scooped up everything.

The style is a sophisticated seaside version of the traditional Cape Cod approach. 

If you find yourself in the Provincetown area, please check this place out. It's well worth the trip!

Iridescence

There is something kind of magical about iridescent colors. The way they will change as you stroll by and how they glimmer in the sunlight. A pair of shoes I have inspired this post. I can basically wear them with just about anything. It made me think about how that can translate into an interior.

This color transcends so many shades of pink and bounces them off the furniture and floors that it gives the space an overall glow.

The wall color in this space could've been any shade of green or blue and the tiles would have undoubtedly balanced.

First off, I can't get enough of this space. The colors are so cool and crisp and the lighting just compliments the entire thing. There is so much iridescent color in this space from the dining table to the cabinets, I don't even know where to begin!

California Dreamin'

Today's rain and colder weather has me absolutely dreaming of better days. I stumbled upon these spectacular homes in California that helped brighten my day right up.

For example this home by Laura and Homer Oatman takes my breath away.

That extrodornary lamp also caught my eye. Brilliant!

In my opinion, Jeff Andrews took a risk with the color pallette of this space. However, it truely paid off! The dark colors work even in this LA home because of the daylighting that comes into play. Truely insipiring!

If this space doesn't scream San Francisco chic, then I don't know what does! The punchy colors and modern vibe make this space the ultimate hang out spot. I just wish this photo showed more of the amazing view outside...

It's Been a Very Long Time...

Wow! Life sure has been busy. I finished my spring semester and now have more time to contribute to my blog. During my last semester I took Lighting, which has always been an enticing field of study to me. I fell in love with the fact that light can encourage mood and feeling and evoke passion, as well as distaste. I find myself being attracted to lighting with an interesting twist.

The cove lighting in this space gives depth and demension and the design created with the recessed cans outlines them nicely.

I am in love with the note light fixture. I wonder if you can add your own personal notes...

Great idea for accent lighting under the island.

Where You Lay Your Head

The place you lay your head at night should be warm, inviting, comfortable, simple, and free of distractions. Your day is busy enough with various events that the one place that you should be able to feel no pressure is in your bedroom. Raining Cats & Dog

So, I don't normally find myself attracted to such cutesy things but these pet pillows by Pillow Pillow Pillow are by far the cutest things I've seen in a while. They would actually look really nice in a variety of settings; children's bedroom, pediatric area, or even a funky/modern living space. If a couple is expecting, these pillows could also bring the sophistication down a notch, in space not necessarily designed with little ones in mind, without killing the entire mood.

Color of the Season: Coral

Coral has been popping up all over the place lately and I can't get enough. I've been noticing it not only in interiors but in fashion as well. It really is the hot color for spring and I couldn't be happier.

I'll take this space with a pomegranate margarita, please!

Friday, Friday!

I'm about t-minus 2-1/2 hours from the weekend and couldn't be more thrilled. However, I'm not driving to FL tonight (as I did last week) but that's ok, I will get over it somehow! Hmm....
The week after a vacation does not exactly go by quickly, that's for sure. So, to help make the days a little more bearable I browse Tumblr to pass the time. I came across this beautiful photograph by Tim Walker that I just cannot take my eyes off of and I will leave you with this in hopes of a glorious weekend!

Miami Architecture

I'm home from my glorious trip to Ft. Lauderdale! So nice to come home to an hour of extra daylight and the offical start of the spring season (not that it physically started yet since we are expecting a snow storm in the coming hours). I will miss the 80-90 degree weather everyday and the beautiful sandy beaches...
During our trip, we took the time to visit Miami; the Art Deco capital of the world! I fell madly in love with all of the vibrant colors and divine architecture.

I fell in love with Miami and the beauty just pouring out of the streets and the beaches.

This awful rainy and depressing weather outside is making this day go by slower and making me even more grateful that I'm leaving for Ft. Lauderdale in less than 24 hours.

I simply cannot wait until I'm sipping margaritas by the pool and soaking up the sun like there is no tomorrow. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Adios!

Tony Duquette. His work has inspired many designers since 1935, when he was asked to design the interior of Bullock's department store, while still attending art school. Duquette's furniture and decor is still produced and sold via Baker Furniture and Remains Lighting and is currently being featured on One Kings Lane. His designs are truly one of a kind and are pieces you may have seen and without giving a thought as to who was behind them. Picture here are some of of his work that I find absolutely fascinating.
